CHRISTMAS TUNES...TOO SOON?

The Providence Journal had an above the fold story about radio stations...some local...already going wall to wall Christmas music, asking the musical question "how soon is too soon for Christmas tunes 24/7. I guess the opinion is in the ear of the beholder. One radio decision maker justified the decision to flip saying  "given the general malaise around the country, we decided it was the right time to launch the feel good format." OK...not to mention it usually brings with it a temporary ratings bump. Not everybody feels good when Christmas starts well before Thanksgiving. Some retailers are aware of that. Nordstrom's even posts signs saying they wont promote Christmas until T-Day has passed. Of course, they're still happy to sell you stuff. One person quoted in the Pro-Jo says "people have a problem living in the moment. We should enjoy Thanksgiving first." OK. Me? I love Christmas music...but I can wait awhile longer. Call me old fashioned, but Christmas starts for me when I see Santa Claus and the tail end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. THEN it's time for ROCKIN' AROUND THE CHRISMTAS TREE ad nauseum.
