About a dozen State Department officials are accusing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson of violating a law to stop recruitment of child soldiers. The federal law is designed to keep foreign militaries from enlisting child soldiers. Reuters reports officials wrote a confidential State Department dissent memo. It said Tillerson violated the Child Soldiers Prevention Act in June when he excluded Afghanistan, Iraq, and Myanmar from a list of nations that use child soldiers.
The memo says Tillerson made the move despite the department publicly acknowledging the three countries draft children to serve as soldiers.
