RAIMONDO ROLLS THE DICE

Governor Gina Raimondo's proposed budget is calling for $23.5 million dollars generated by legalized gambling. The concern here is that this is a gamble on her part because Rhode Island's plan in contingent on the U.S Supreme Court ruling in favor of former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's challenge to a federal law preventing state's that don't currently allow sports betting from doing so. Rhode Islanders sure like to gamble. Last year the state lottery system that includes Twin River as well as traditional lottery games pulled in $872 million in wagers. That's $823 dollars for each of the 1.06 million residents in the state. The $823 dollar per resident may seem high to those of us who don't gamble alot outside of an occasional POWERBALL tickets when the jackpot hits an eye watering amount, But the figures don't lie, and based on those figures, the Governor's rolling the dice on Rhode Islanders' seeming insatiable appetite for gambling...and why not be at the alter when the Supreme Court says "I DO"????????
