(Providence, R) -- Rhode Island legislators are considering legislation that would get rid of the statute of limitations for survivors of sex abuse to sue their abusers. The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday heard testimony from victims, including Jim Scanlan, who identified himself as one of the victims featured in the movie "Spotlight," which focused on the Catholic priest sex abuse scandal in the Boston area. The bills, sponsored by Senator Donna Nesselbush and Representative Carol Hagan McEntee, would eliminate the current window for reporting the abuse of three to seven years.
