Sports-Betting Sole Bidder Is Lottery Contractor

(Undated)  --  There is just one bidder for a contract to run a proposed sports-betting operation in Rhode Island. State lottery officials tell "The Providence Journal" that IGT, the company that runs the state's electronic lottery systems, was the only company among 18 firms who answered a request for proposals to formally submit a bid. Governor Gina Raimondo proposed setting up sports books at both of the state's casinos earlier this year in anticipation of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that allows states to legalize sports gambling, which happened earlier this month.
