ACLU Sues For School's Transgender Student Policy

(Providence, RI)  --  A Providence charter school is responding to an American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit over failure to provide records on a transgender student policy.  The ACLU filed the suit in Superior Court on Wednesday against the Achievement First Mayoral Academy, alleging an open records law violation.  School officials said the request for the copy of the policy was sent to a principal who doesn't work there anymore and that the school would have complied with the request immediately if it had been aware of it.  The Rhode Island Department of Education adopted regulations in April requiring all local education agencies to have comprehensive policies protecting transgender students by July 1st.
