Attorney General Clears Officer Who Shot Suspect

(Tiverton, RI)  --  Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin says a Tiverton police officer was justified in his use of deadly force earlier this year.  Law enforcement responded to a domestic disturbance and reportedly arrived to find Scott Banville and his wife struggling over control of a gun on April 4th.  The AG's report says Lieutenant Scott Beaulieu [[ BOHL-ee-yuh ]] fired two rounds through the window of the Banville home after observing Banville beginning to point the gun toward the area where police had taken positions.  Banville reportedly admitted to state police during an interview at the hospital the next day that he had been drinking and arguing with his wife over financial issues, and that he told her during the incident that he would try to turn it into a "suicide by cop" situation.
