WILL REFUSAL TO DEBATE HURT PRIMARY FRONT RUNNERS?

With the primary next Wednesday, the debate over lack of primary debates continues. The Pro-Jo ran a Sunday editorial entitled DEBATES WOULD PUBLIC PUBLIC FIRST in which it railed against Governor Gina Raimondo and GOP front runner Allan Fung for not agreeing to primary debates. two TV debates came and went without the front runners this week. The newspaper says both have done the public a disservice suggesting their attitude is "public be damned."  Fung did agree to ONE debate with Patricia Morgan and Gio Feroce on what the Journal accurately labled a "low watt radio station" entering into friendly territory. The editorial says by putting self interests first, they put the public second. Will the refusal to participate in primary debates hurt the front runners? I doubt it. There hasn't really been a big buzz about these primaries...and turnout for Rhode Island primaries is usually sparse. However, a sparse turnout can also generate some real surprises.
