Woonasquatucket River Corridor Restoration Efforts Planned

(Providence, RI)  --  A revitalization plan is being announced for the corridor of the Woonasquatucket River in Providence.  The Woonasquatucket Vision Plan proposes to rehab 560 acres from the Providence Place Mall to Olneyville Square, with a plan to transform the area into a vibrant mixed-use district, according to an announcement from city officials on Thursday.  It was noted that the river was previously a source of power during the Industrial Revolution and a waste-dumping location.  The intent is to have the project complement the work of other ongoing major infrastructure work in the area.
