ACLU,State Settle Over UHIP-Caused Medicaid Problem

(Providence, RI)  --  The ACLU of Rhode Island is announcing a settlement of a lawsuit against the state regarding Medicaid benefits.  The class-action suit was filed last year claiming that participants in a state-run program were not being given proper notice before being kicked off.  Rhode Island's infamous UHIP computer system, which was launched with the goal of streamlining benefits programs in 2016, was blamed for causing the problem.  The civil right advocacy group says the state added hundreds of people back to the Medicaid program within a month of the lawsuit being filed, and is agreeing to provide more of a timely notice to recipients going forward.
