ACLU Says ACI Has Cold Cells

(Cranston, RI)  --  The American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island is suing the state over allegations of inmates being left in the cold at the ACI facility.  The ACLU said on Friday it has received numerous complaints from inmates at the ACI Intake Center in Cranston and has filed a class-action suit against the Rhode Island Department of Corrections claiming the facility has failed to provide adequate heat to at least two cell blocks for more than a month and a half.  The suit claims cells have been made dangerously cold, which constitutes cruel and unusual punishment for prisoners.  The ACLU notes temperatures are expected to drop significantly once again later this week.
