Woman Sucked Into Parents Grave And Now Suing Cemetery

Imagine visiting the cemetery to pay your respects to a loved one and all of a sudden you get sucked into the grave. That's what happened to Joanne Cullen back in 2016 when visiting the gravesite of her parents on Long Island, New York.

Joanne had bent down to fix a bow on a wreath by the headstone when a sinkhole formed and began to “swallow” her up, according to court papers. “It caused her to fall forward and smash her head on the tombstone,” cracking a tooth, her lawyer said.

As she tried to brace herself, she grabbed onto the sides of the tombstone and screamed for help but nobody was responding. This horrible experience occurred at dusk back in 2016.

She says she'll never go back there, has dealt with headaches and nightmares and has needed counseling over the years to deal with what happened. She believes that gravediggers who backfilled a grave adjacent to her parents’ left an underground void that caused her to sink into the grave. She is suing the cemetery and church that runs it for five million dollars.
