Report: Suicide Attempts By Kids Have Doubles Since 2007

A shocking new study shows that kids are being hospitalized for attempted suicide at double the rate previously measured.

The study, published in JAMA Pediatrics show suicides in all age groups are on the rise, but for kids, between the year 2007 and 2015, the rate doubled. By the final year in the research, over one million children had suicidal thoughts or acted on it.

The most jarring figure is of those, 43-percent were children between ages five and eleven. The average age is 13. As for why the kids are attempting suicide, that isn’t known. Increased pressures at school, on social media, and fears could make up the majority of motives. Bullying is also something that’s been reported more frequently and a reason many point to.

One of the biggest concerns is there aren’t enough child psychologists to handle the rise.
