Abortion Rights Bill Passes Rhode Island Senate Committee

(Providence, RI)--A measure aiming to keep abortion legal in Rhode Island regardless of decisions made at the federal level is going to reach the full state Senate next week. The Senate Committee on Health and Human Services passed a revised version of the Reproductive Privacy Act last night. One of the "no" votes came from Senator Elaine Morgan, who was allowed to vote in an ex-officio role and had planned to do so when the bill faced a tighter vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this week.It was subsequently transferred out of that committee.
