Principal Placed On Leave After Tweeting Gun Photo To Parkland Survivor

A Missouri elementary school principal is being placed on administrative leave after posting photos of guns to Parkland survivor David Hogg. Chad Searcey is the principal at Compass Elementary School in Kansas City. And apparently, he made the social media posts on his personal accounts and was responding to Hogg’s call for federal funding of gun violence research.

In since-deleted tweets, Searcey posted pictures of a man with his face covered holding a rifle and two children shooting handguns. The Platte County School District has since confirmed Searcey was placed on leave.

“We understand why the public response has been strong with regard to student safety in our nation’s schools,” a release from the school announcing Searcey’s leave reads. “We intend to address the situation immediately and in a manner consistent with our Board of Education policies, as well as our goal of ensuring a safe and caring environment for our students, staff, and community.”

  • Hogg became one of a group of student advocates for gun safety measures after surviving a school shooting in Parkland, Florida on Valentine's Day 2018. Seventeen people were killed in the attack.
