Cara Delevingne Was Told Being Queer Would Hurt Her Career

It’s Pride Month, and Hollywood has been waving their rainbow flags in celebration of diversity and inclusion. But Cara Delevingne thinks there’s still progress to be made.

The model received the Hero Award from the LGBTQ youth charity The Trevor Project at the TrevorLive Gala in New York City on Monday night. During her acceptance speech, she said that being LGBTQ has made her feel “like an alien” at times.

In fact, she recalled being warned by Hollywood producers that her career would be hurt by being openly “queer.” “Behind closed doors, we’re told that we’re not normal, that we’re undeserving of love even by the ones we’re supposed to love the most,” she added.
