Sex Abuse Statute Of Limitations Bill Passes General Assembly

(Providence, RI)--The Rhode Island General Assembly is passing a bill that extends the statute of limitations for victims of sex abuse.The legislation would increase the amount of time a victim has to sue after reaching adulthood from seven to 35 years.There was a clash between the Senate and House versions of the bill over the Senate's attempt to get rid of language that would start a seven-year clock for a victim who discovered repressed memories of previous abuse.The legislation that was passed includes the seven-year rule.
