Anheuser-Busch Ends Association With “Beer Money” Guy Over Old Tweets

Controversial social media posts from his past are costing an Iowa State fan financial support as he looks to continue his viral fundraiser.

The since-deleted posts from Carson Kingwere included in a Des Moines Register article yesterday and King apologized in a statement. King, who was 16 at the time of the posts, shared, “Eight years ago, when I was a sophomore in high school, I made some social media posts with my friends that quoted and referenced the show ‘Tosh.0” One of those posts was brought to my attention by a member of the media today.”

King said in an additional statement to KCCI, “The Des Moines Register has been nothing but kind in all of their coverage, and I appreciate the reporter pointing out the post to me. I want everyone to understand that this was my decision to publicly address the posts and apologize. I believe that is the right thing to do.”

That wasn't enough for Anheuser-Busch who ended its fundraising association with King, but not before promising to donate more than 350-thousand-dollars. King has been raising money for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital after his sign asking for beer money made it on ESPN's College GameDay before the CyHawk game.

The beer maker and Venmo are honoring their matching pledges.
