Detroit Native Returns Home After Being Freed From Chinese Prison

A Detroit man who was jailed in China in 2016 has returned home.Wendell Brown was joined by family and friends at Metro Airport yesterday and was thankful to be back on U.S. soil. For those who don’t know, Brown was jailed in China after being involved in a fight at a bar.

Chinese officials said the assault by Brown on another man was intentional, but Brown disputed that allegation. Brown was a star football player at Detroit King High School, Ball State University and played in the Canadian Football League. He was in China teaching the game to others.

Amazingly, he isn’t bitter about the experience at all. “I am thankful for every experience that I have in life,” he explained. “Everything is a lesson, and if you can’t use every situation you go through to grow from then you are doing something wrong. At least that is what I was taught.”
