SCOTUS Hears Arguments About LGBTQ Protections

The U.S. Supreme Court appears split about a case that will decide whether federal law protects LGBTQ people from workplace discrimination. The high court heard two hours of arguments in a case involving Gerald Bostock, who was fired from a county job in Georgia after joining a gay softball team.

Conservative justices like Samuel Alito appeared skeptical about arguments that claimed civil rights law banning discrimination based on sex, also covers sexual orientation.

However, conservative justice Neil Gorsuch asked questions that signaled he was open to claims the law protected LGBTQ workers. The court's liberal wing seemed to side with Bostock.
