IA Man Gets Prison For Burning LGBTQ Flag

(Ames, IA) -- An Iowa man is going to prison for setting fire to an LGBTQ pride flag. Thirty-year-old Adolfo Martinez was sentenced on Wednesday to about 16 years in prison after he set fire to the rainbow banner hanging outside a church in Ames last June. Court documents say Martinez admitted to police that he set the banner on fire. The county attorney says hate crime charges were added because it was criminal mischief against someone's property based on sexual orientation. Court records indicate he was sentenced to a longer term because he was a repeat offender.
