New Powers Approved For Woonsocket To Shut Down Bars

(Woonsocket, RI)--A new city law in Woonsocket is giving local officials emergency powers to shut down city bars.The Valley Breeze reports city councilors voted unanimously last week to approve the new law, similar to one in Providence, requested by public safety officials.The City Council, sitting as the Board of License Commissioners, will be able to close down an establishment for up to 72 hours until a hearing can be held, according to City Council President Daniel Gendron.
