Gov. Raimondo: Number of RI Coronavirus Cases Now 44

(Providence, RI) -- The number of coronavirus cases in Rhode Island is continuing to climb. The Department of Health announced this afternoon 11 new cases bringing the state's total to 44. The latest cases range in age from their 20s to their 60s and one of those individuals is hospitalized. At a Thursday afternoon press conference, Governor Gina Raimondo said there are currently no plans to impose a shelter-in-place order in Rhode Island. However, she warns that guidelines intended to slow the spread of the coronavirus must be followed to avoid stricter measures. Raimondo says the state is working for the best but planning for the worst.

The Rhode Island Attorney General's office says it's getting consumer complaints about price gouging as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Governor Raimondo says it's illegal and she warns those engaged in price gouging to quote, "knock it off." The governor is also warning that the ban on visitors to nursing homes is not a joke. Raimondo says there have been reports of people sneaking in to see loved ones which is endangering lives, and she's asking everyone to stay out.
