(Providence, RI) -- The number of coronavirus cases in Rhode Island continues to climb. Governor Gina Raimondo announced this afternoon eight new cases. There are now 132 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. The Governor also reminder all residents to avoid crowds of ten people of more. Raimondo said that she is getting many reports of retail establishments and restaurants allowing customers to form lines that consist of people standing fewer than six feet apart.
Meanwhile, Rhode Island is extending deadlines for Medicaid re-certification during the coronavirus pandemic. About 290-thousand state residents are enrolled in the health program. The Providence Journal reports the Executive Office of Health & Human Services today announced emergency rule changes to ensure Medicaid-covered services continue during the COVID-19 crisis.
A coalition of 33 attorneys general, including Rhode Island AG Peter Neronha, is urging Amazon, Facebook, eBay, Walmart, and Craigslist to strengthen efforts to monitor their platforms for price gouging of products in short supply due to the COVID-19 emergency. The AG's say price gouging is preventing health care workers and others from getting what they need to protect themselves and prevent the spread of the virus.
(North Kingstown, RI) -- The Rhode Island National Guard's 2020 Air Show scheduled for June 20th and 21st, is canceled due to the coronavirus. Major General Christopher Callahan says the decision was made so the Guard can focus on supporting the public's health and safety during the crisis. The National Guard was recently activated to help deal with COVID-19.
