War Of Words After Black Providence Firefighter Claims Racial Profiling

(Providence, RI)--A black firefighter in Providence claims he was racially profiled.Terrell Paci [[ PAH-chee ]] told WPRI-TV during Friday's protest in Providence, that officers approached him while he was in uniform with guns drawn in front of the Messer Street fire station earlier last week.The Providence firefighter union said even in uniform, young black men are not immune from systemic racism, and Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza added an apology on behalf of the city.But the police union denied any racial profiling happened, explaining that officers were responding to information that the car Paci and one other person were in may have been involved in an attempted armed robbery.In a statement, the union's executive board says Paci embellished what happened "to grab a headline."
