Providence Police Union Votes No-Confidence In City Leaders

(Providence, RI)--The Providence police officer union took a vote of no confidence on Wednesday against city Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare [[ parry ]], the mayor and the City Council president. The vote was connected to a claim of racial profiling by a black Providence firefighter, Terrell Paci [[ PAH-chee ]], who had guns drawn on him recently by two city police officers.Pare was partially critical of how the situation was handled, while Mayor Jorge Elorza and council president Sabina Matos released statements denouncing what happened. On Monday night into Tuesday morning, the City Council Finance Committee held a nine-hour meeting during which ample testimony was once again received to defund the police.
