Legislation Would Require Barriers On Bridges To Prevent Suicides

(Providence, RI) -- The Rhode Island General Assembly is considering legislation requiring safety barriers at several significant bridges to prevent people from jumping to their deaths. The bill, which has been worked on by lawmakers with the help of the Samaritans of Rhode Island suicide prevention group, would cover the Pell, Verrazano and Mount Hope bridges. WJAR-TV reports three people have died jumping from local bridges in the last two weeks.
