Local Basketball Team Survives Stampede Incident At Tournament

(Newport, RI) -- A youth basketball team from the Newport area is safe after an incident at an out-of-state tournament. A dozen people were injured Sunday at a sports complex in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area after people heard the sound of gunshots and tried to leave the building. The head coach of the Butler Basketball Club fifth graders said when the stampede came through, he grabbed some of his players, while others began running. While not physically injured, he says the kids are shook up and are set to meet with a counselor.
