New Rules Bring More Scrutiny Of Officers Who Transfer

Rhode Island police officers are working under a new regulation this year.

The Providence Journal reports the state Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training adopted a policy which requires police to be re-certified if they jump from one department to another.

The commission says this is meant to address a nationwide trend of quote-unquote "rogue" officers from landing at a new department without a review.

Previously, a Rhode Island police officer's certification remained intact for three years after they left an agency.
