University of Rhode Island Men's Basketball Coach David Cox calls it a "tough day."
After four years at U-R-I Cox has been let go by the University.
He says that "it is disappointing news,,,but I respect the decision and am grateful for the opportunity,"
The end of the season and the Cox tenure with the team , came when they were topped by Richmond 64-59 in the second round of the A10 Tournament.
"I have learned quite a bit in the eight years I've spent at Rhode Island. I am certain that I will grow from those experiences. From winning championships to suffering tough losses. I will cherish my time here," the coach said.
No successor has been named.
In a tweet this afternoon Cox said simply:
"THANK YOU RHODY NATION, forever in my heart"
A nationwide search is underway.
