Off Duty Pawtucket Officer's Trial Nears End

The prosecution and defense have rested in the assault trial of Pawtucket police officer Daniel Dolan.

Taking the stand in Kent County Superior Court on Tuesday, Dolan testified that he believed a driver who sped past him on Route 95 was fleeing from a crime in June of 2021.

The school resource officer said he spotted the vehicle in West Greenwich and intended to have a "fatherly chat" with the young driver behind the wheel.

However, Dolan conceded under cross-examination that he did not have the authority to pull over 18-year-old Dominic Vincent, who was shot by Dolan as he tried to drive away.

Closing arguments in the case are expected on today.
