Bus Transportation Oversight Subject Of Monday Hearing

The Senate Oversight Committee will hold a hearing Monday regarding the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority.

Senate President Dominick Ruggerio wants RIPTA CEO Scott Avedisian to resign, citing concerns about the operation of the agency.

“The time has come to place the agency under the auspices of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, and I will be submitting legislation to that effect. I am asking that CEO Scott Avedisian step down immediately, and that the governor conduct a national search for someone with expertise in transit to head Rhode Island’s public transit office, under this new structure.” the Senate President said in a statement.

Avedisian has said he will not step down. Both men are expected to attend the hearing.
