RIPTA Head Faces Lawmakers Over Transit Issues

The state Senate Oversight Committee gathered yesterday to review the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority.

CEO Scott Avedisian was grilled on a number of issues in the last year, ranging from canceled Providence School District student routes to a cyberattack that exposed the information of state employees.

Senate President Dominick Ruggerio wants Avedisian to resign, but so far he says he will not leave the post.

Instead, he told lawmakers that a combination of a shortage of drivers and declining gas tax revenues were instrumental in some of the problems that have come to the surface.
