Cooley, Friars Head To NY For Big East Battle With UConn

The Providence Friars men's college basketball team begins its road to a championship Thursday when they play their first Big East Tournament game.

And, it will come against a rival in the University of Connecticut. It has been nearly a quarter of a century since the two teams have met on The Big East stage in New York. Despite being longtime rivals the two teams have only faced each other four times at Madison Square Garden.

The number five seed is Providence at 21 and 10 overall and 13 and 7 in the conference.

UConn is the number four seed. 24 and 7 overall and 13 and 7 in the conference as well.

Although you can throw out records, the two teams are on opposite rides. UConn is 8 and 2 in their last ten games.

Providence is 5 and 5.

The last time the two teams met in the regular season was on February 23 when the Huskies came away with a 87-69 victory.

The two fierce competitors will meet Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at MSG.
