50 Homeless- 4 Hurt In Johnston Fire

A three-alarm fire in Johnston displaced about 50 residents on Sunday afternoon.

The blaze broke out at the Simmons Village apartments off Atwood Avenue.

Officials say one firefighter and three residents were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

Johnston fire chief David Iannuccilli said the elevators in the complex were not working, so crews had to carry multiple people out of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Rhode Island Fire Marshal.
