Fed Sends Millions To Rhode Island For Road Projects

Rhode Island is getting some 25 million dollars in federal transportation grants as part of a federal program.

Money will be used to expand a rapid transit bus service to increase ridership and reduce pollution.

The rest of the money will go to right – sizing Route 37 including the expansion or replacement of a half dozen bridges.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg says "the project is strong in safety, environmental sustainability, quality of life, mobility and community connectivity, state of good repair, partnership and collaboration, and innovation. The project will implement a complete streets segment and a signalized crossing specifically for pedestrians, which is expected to improve safety."
