State Using Old Nursing Home For Shelter

A Providence nursing center that closed earlier this year is now being used as an emergency shelter for homeless families.

The Rhode Island Department of Housing made the announcement.

The state is paying for the shelter with thirty-million dollars from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The homeless families are coordinating with the Amos House, which will work to help them find jobs and permanent housing.

The Housing Department is exploring the possibility of buying the Charlesgate property.
