The Johnston Town Council and School Committee are giving Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr. the go-ahead to intervene in the district's finances.
Polisena first announced the move last month.
There was concern about the use of the word "takeover", but officials say this has nothing to do with curriculum.
It's all about the bottom line.
The Johnston School District is on track to end its second straight year in the red.
