Providence Police Mourn Passing Of Equine Officer

Providence Police are noting the passing of "Salute" an equine officer that served the department for ten years.

The horse was donated to the city by McLaughlin and Moran Inc.

Salute was a Clydesdale who was 21 hands tall and 22 hundred pounds.

Officials say despite the size of the animal, Salute was a gentle presence within the department.

Salute's human partner was Patrolman Jose Mendez for the last six years.

The city has four remain horses in its stable - all are Clydesdales.
