Business Fined For Accidental Leak

The EPA is punishing a Rhode Island business for a hazardous material leak.

Taylor Farms New England in North Kingstown experienced an accidental ammonia leak in 2020, which caused 15 employees to seek medical attention.

The EPA fined Taylor Farms 650-thousand dollars, concluding the facility did not properly protect its ammonia evaporators from potential hazards after a forklift punctured the equipment in a fruit storage room.

The federal agency is urging other companies to ensure their refrigeration systems comply with industry standards.
