The Department of Justice has finalized an agreement with a company that caused confusion off the Rhode Island coast at the start of the Russian war in Ukraine.
Zeus Lines Management, which is based in Greece, agreed to pay a penalty of over two-million dollars which will partially fund projects to benefit marine and coastal natural resources in the Ocean State.
The ship broke down in Narragansett Bay near Newport last February, and prosecutors determined the vessel, named Galissas, had skipped out on required maintenance when it was in Europe.
While the ship was stuck, observers who were unaware of the situation questioned whether its large letter "Z" was the official support symbol for the Russian invasion.
