The Rhode Island Board of Elections determined on Tuesday that Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos has enough valid nomination paper signatures to run for Congress.
Earlier this summer, the boards of canvassers in East Providence, Jamestown, and Newport found fraudulent signatures, which Matos is blaming on a campaign worker.
The state elections board voted yesterday to subpoena those who collected the signatures, but not until after the 1st House District Democratic primary on September 5th, in order to avoid any disruptions.
In a combative press conference yesterday, New York Congressman Adriano Espaillat tclaimed Matos was being discriminated against as a woman of color.
