Beach Lawsuit Dismissed

A federal judge is dismissing a lawsuit that challenged Rhode Island's new beach access law. U.S. District Court Judge William Smith ruled that the Rhode Island Association of Coastal Taxpayers lacked the proper standing to sue the attorney general, the DEM director and the head of the Coastal Resources Management Council.

Smith said none of the defendants were involved in enacting the new law which provides public access to the beach as long as people are no more than ten feet above the seaweed line.

The attorney representing the coastal taxpayer group says they are considering other legal options.
