Portsmouth Woman Charged With Neglect

Police have charged a Portsmouth woman following an investigation into suspected elder and child abuse.

Fifty-one-year-old Lisa Cory faces felony abuse, neglect, and criminal negligence, among other counts.

The investigation began Sunday when Cory's 78-year-old mother Leonilda died at Newport Hospital after suffering from severe neglect and maltreatment. Authorities say Cory was her mother's primary caregiver, but reportedly failed to provide necessary care and treatment, and further abused and neglected her two children, ages 16 and 17.

Cory is free on a 30-thousand dollar surety bond; she next appears in court in December.
