Father Held Without Bail For Accidental Shooting Of Son

A judge has ordered a Cranston man accused in the accidental shooting of his four-year-old son held without bail.

Michael Jones was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of felony assault with a handgun, and assault possession of a firearm after being convicted of a violent crime.

The shooting happened Tuesday when the 33-year-old Jones was handling a 9-millimeter handgun and it went off.

The bullet struck the boy in the head.

He remains in critical condition at Hasbro Children's Hospital after undergoing surgery.
