Club Owner Sues Providence Police For Harassement

The owner of a Providence LGBTQ+ club has accused city police of unlawful targeting of its patrons based on sexual orientation.

Steven Medeiros has filed suit on behalf of The Mega-Plex, charging that police have repeatedly subjected patrons to unwarranted stops and searches over the past year, on the grounds of alleged drug activity.

The lawsuit claims a violation of the 14th Amendment, regarding equal protection under the law and freedom from discrimination.

The city has not commented.
