Parents Fighting Changes In Coventry Elementary Schools

Parents in Coventry held a protest Monday against plans to reconfigure most of the district's elementary schools.

The protest was held at Blackrock Elementary School, which is one of the affected institutions.

The plan is to consolidate elementary grades by converting five school buildings and assigning each one specific grade level.

While school officials say the building-by-grade concept is beneficial to students, parents are concerned about the effect this will have on their children's learning.

A petition has also been created, calling for the ouster of the Superintendent of schools, Don Cowart.

A public meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed, with no makeup date named.
