Lobbyist Lunch Tab Case Dismissed

The Rhode Island Ethics Commission has unanimously voted to dismiss a complaint against Governor Dan McKee.

The state Republican Party filed the complaint over a January 2023 meal attended by the governor, his fundraising chairman, a lobbyist, and two officials from a Philadelphia company seeking to redevelop the Cranston Street Armory.

The commission ruled McKee was potentially liable for a violation, but ruled his actions were not quote, "knowing and willful." The board did agree to extend its ongoing investigation into former state officials

David Patten and James Thorsen, who face several ethics complaints. McKee called the complaint a waste of taxpayer money and politically motivated.
