Cranston Republicans At Odds Over Primary Challenge

Republican Party officials in Cranston have called on Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung not to challenge incumbent Mayor Ken Hopkins in the upcoming GOP primary.

The officials wrote to Fenton-Fung earlier this month and requested she, quote, "consider other options."

The letter claims her run would have adverse effects on the party, and put control of the mayor's office in jeopardy. Fenton-Fung, who is married to former Mayor Allen Fung, released a statement Sunday-she charged the GOP has been "humiliated" by Hopkins and cited infighting which led a City Councilman to jump to the Democratic Party.

She also alluded that Hopkins and his campaign are wedded to outdated tactics, and feel threatened by her approach and ideas.
