RIDOT Director: "I Am Truly Sorry"

A joint House-Senate Oversight Committee hearing spent nearly four hours hearing from members of the McKee Administration on its handling of the Washington Bridge Crisis.

The intent of the hearing was to get into the causes of the bridge failure and what is planned going forward.

Department of Transportation Director Peter Alviti told committee members that he took full responsibility for the issues surrounding the bridge.

"I'm truly sorry for the difficulty that the people are experiencing every day in this state because of the Washington Bridge," Alviti said.

Lawmakers said they had problems accepting many of the answers that have been advanced.

And, when asked whether the bridge would eventually be razed and rebuilt the director said he didn't know.

Currently the state and federal governments are coming up with a plan.
